On 5 December Rosinka Oxford Russian Children’s Centre held celebrations to mark its 5th anniversary and to celebrate the New Year. The event was held at Oxsrad Sports & Leisure Centre in Marston, Oxford. This celebration was very special! The program included Santa’s Grotto and an art exhibition of our children’s work on the theme of “Zimushka-Winter” and “Russian Circus”. The exhibition was coordinated with our Centre’s artist and pedagogue Elena Samson-Hewitt.
The celebration opened with children from our Centre giving greetings to parents and guests.
Special guest of honour at our celebration was The Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Rae Humberstone. He warmly congratulated our teachers and children on the occasion of the holiday and wished the children good luck in their continuing study of the Russian language and Russian culture.
Teachers of the Centre then presented thanks for all the excellent work aimed at promoting Russian culture in Oxford.
Our children each spoke a few words of verse in different languages, including English, Bulgarian, German, Welsh, French, Serbian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Chinese, and, of course, Russian!
Two of our parents, Olga Stepanova and Tatyana Mayoriello, also presented a few words to the audience. They spoke of how their children first attended Rosinka classes all those years ago, and about the the knowledge acquired by these youngsters through their interest in Russian culture.
Greetings over, everyone was dazzled by a performance of aerial gymnastic school A freak A Aerials with a programme specially created for Rosinka.
The second part of the festival included children’s greetings with Grandfather Frost. There were dances, songs, dances, surprises and presents. All the children were very pleased!
The celebration turned out to be a great success!
